Let’s go for a walk…

On May 31, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

C’mon, put whatever it is you’re doing down and let’s go for a stroll. You’ll have a good time, I promise. The night is absolutely delicious and tonight has the making of an evening that will be talked about for weeks to come. I have a good day so far. A late lunch with some good friends and plenty of laughs to go around. I always say it and will repeat it, sometimes there’s nothing better than the simple pleasure of good company and good conversation.

What do you feel like chatting about tonight? What’s on your mind? I am finishing a very good movie, Cassandra’s Dream with Colin Farrell and Ewen McGregor. It’s a Woody Allen film and it’s quite good. I am definitely a Woody Allen fan although not of all his works. The movie is heavy in dialogue and therefor has put me in the talkative mood. Tonight seems like a good night to talk about silly things we’ve done when we were younger. I’ll share a quick story that I would probably share should we be actually strolling through the city streets. I was 17 and I was working at a medical billing office doing data entry to make some extra money while I was in college. I was at the time at the height of my love for juggling and all things circus related, Cirque du Soleil to be exact. I was never much of a Ringling Bros fan. My sister was working as an usher at the Cirque and she let me know when the performers got out after the show so I went in hopes of meeting some of them. What happened was much better than that. Not only did I get to meet them, they loved my enthusiasm so much that I was invited to spend the day there to watch them train, having lunch and dinner with the crew and performers and then watch the show front and center that very night. I don’t have to tell you that I was like a kid in a candy store and to this day I regard it as one the most fun and out of the ordinary days I’ve had.

What about you, tell me a story about your life, about something that made you laugh, smile or just plain out stuck in your mind as a great day. Don’t skimp on the details.

here’s to memorable days and sharing them with special people

And the Copper medal goes to sad boy…

I don’t blame this kid. Whoever heard of a podium for 4th place? Let the kid go home with some dignity. lol! I feel for ya kid, I do.

Good Saturday morning folks. How is your morning thus far? I slept in a bit. I’m not a super early bird kind of person but my ideal wake-up time is around 8am. But I went completely crazy and woke up at 9am! How’s that for crazy? I know, don’t try to stop me, I like living on the edge and there ain’t nothing you can do about it. It’s a wild streak that needs to roam freely. Careful, it’s contagious and I can’t guarantee that if you hang out with me too much you won’t be waking up 20, 30 even 45 minutes later than usual. It’s a wild ride so watch out for the Rhen train!

Okay, enough silliness. It’s an absolute gorgeous day out here in the city and I for one and going to go soak it all in. It’s a good day to get some summer clothes. I haven’t updated my wardrobe in way too long. I grew up with two sisters so I am that rare exception of man that actually likes to shop with women. Go ahead, try on 10 dresses. Hey, I think guys have it all wrong when it comes to shopping with women. Most of them dread it like they dread going to the dentist. The way I see it, you get to watch a woman try on outfit after outfit with the ultimate goal of looking as hot as possible. Sounds like an okay way to spend a day for me. Guys, wake up, put down the remote and go watch your ladies look beautiful. Thank me later.

Well, my sweet friends. Off to try and find some summer clothes myself. Have a sweet day and I’ll see you tonight.

Make a wish…

On May 30, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

Top of the evening to you all. I am off to a friend’s birthday party but I wanted to stop in and say a quick hidee ho before I skadoodled.

I will be honest, today was a tough day. It didn’t start out tough but it turned into one of those days that you don’t even know which way is up anymore. It’s one thing after the other and you try to keep your cool but it doesn’t always work as well as you’d like. Hey, it’s part of the human experience and we have to appreciate the tough days as much as the smooth ones. So with that said, I am going to go out, forget about the day or should I say, learn what I needed to learn from the day and party the night away. Yup, that sounds like a plan. lol!

I pray you are having the most divine of evenings wherever you are and remember to look around you at least once and take something in completely. I went for a walk before and was looking at how beautiful things look in the twilight. My sister had pointed it out to me many years ago of how the twilight had a certain way of illuminating things that you couldn’t see at any other part of the day and it always stuck with me. Since then, I really enjoy that time of day and make sure to look at the trees and the sky in it’s beautiful array.

I bif you all a good night

What are you up to?…

On May 29, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

Good evening. It’s a busy night here in NYC and I am listening to cars whiz by and people chatting up a storm as they walk the streets. People are out and enjoying the summer-like weather that we are fortunate enough to be having. I just returned from a good meeting with my manager and got to talking about what’s next for Rhen and what we need to be focusing on. I am excited because there are a lot of decisions to be made as to what direction to take the upcoming album and I always enjoy the process of song and concept development. It’s sometimes a very tedious and frustrating process but overall, it is very rewarding and one that I feel very at home while doing.

I have found that when you are doing what you feel you are meant to be doing, no matter how difficult it gets, you know you will get through it and there will be a great sense of accomplishment. Even a hard day doing the right thing beats a great day when you feel like you’re in the wrong place. That’s why I will give my 110% to my music and to sharing it with all of you. It’s where I want to be and what I want to be doing, plain and simple. If it’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that it’s sometimes not easy to find your passion but once you, you owe it to yourself to give it your all. No one is going to do it for you and you need to set the wheels in your motion. The fun thing about following your passion and dream is that when you’re on fire for something, it’s contagious and you will start to be surrounded more and more with like-minded people who will not only inspire you along the way but also wind up being key people in seeing your dream come to fruition. If you think you’re going to make it there alone, think again. One of my favorite things I have experienced so far on this musical road has been meeting wonderful people like you who encourage me, keep me grounded and humble and give me a reason to keep writing both my music and words each and every day. Never underestimate your power to inspire and move other people.

I wish you a wonderfully inspired night and whatever you are up to, savor it and etch it into your mind forever.

Finally, the can of wup ass is manufactured!!…

On May 29, 2008 in Daily Musing

For all those times that you wish you had a can in the car, at work or even in school, your waiting is finally over! No more will there be empty threats made, now you can deliver what you’ve been trash talking for all these years :)

Good morning folks. Hope that brought a smile to your face as much as it did for me. Just for the record, I made it through my babysitting experience last night. And yes, yes, I changed my first diaper ever! I figured, if I could survive that I’ll be okay although my friends laughed at me when they got back from dinner and realized I put the diaper on backwards. Hey, both ends look the same, it was like a king of diamonds. Anyway, I think it’s better a reversed diaper than no diaper at all, right? We were laughing so hard, it was a fun night and I had a great time with the kids.

Hope your morning is starting out well. It’s sunny as sunny can be here and I am going to go start my day.

Super uncle Rhen to the rescue…

On May 28, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

Yes, it’s true, I am babysitting! My good friend Rich wanted to have a quiet dinner with his wife Shye and uncle Adrian was asked to be the babysitter in charge. All I have to say is that my respect for parents is growing exponentially with every passing minute. lol! Seriously though, they have two little buttons that are really fun to be with. Right now we have a Boz DVD playing and they are watching that for about a minute and then grab some toy trains and throw those across the room and then like little ninjas, I turn around and they have my cell doing things that a cell shouldn’t be doing, like for instance, flying! I love to watch them interact with the surrounding and see what makes them laugh and what is fun for them . Since they are around musical instruments in their own house all the time, they find all the instruments in my place quite fascinating.

So that’s my evening tonight and hey, the way I see it, if Rhen doesn’t blow up worldwide, I can always think about running the Rhen Daycare :)

Hope you’re having a good night. I gotta run, because they are about to go pour milk all over my keyboard and I may need that.

I feel so unprotected right now…

On May 28, 2008 in Daily Musing

I don’t know about you but I don’t think it’s going to be a safe day with a Dunkin’ Donuts so close to the station. lol!

Good sunny morning to you. Have you woken up on the right side of the bed? I am still sitting in bed as I write this so I cannot say for me yet but I’ll let you know once I do :) It’s a gorgeous day here in NYC and I am looking forward to seeing what the day has in store. Actually the truth is that I have a whole lot to do today and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed but I’m focusing on just taking things one at a time. You know those times when you feel you want to get so much done and the hours in the day don’t seem to be enough. Obviously they are and even if there were 50 hours in a day, we would find a way to make that not be enough so I know the change in perspective has to come from me.

I always think of Pepe LePew from the Looney Tunes cartoons. He would always take it easy and trot along and by the end of the segment, he would reach his goal, his love. There’s some truth about life in there. I have noticed that slow and steady wins the race. It’s consistency that is the true treasure and not running like a mad person. I need to take this lesson to heart more often. I am the type that tries to cram 16 things into a 2 thing slot. I’ve heard it said before that no matter how hard you try, when it comes down to it, you can only physically do one thing at a time. Sure you can have a few things cooking together, but your hands can’t be in two places at once. And you know what, at the end of the day, taking it slower is just a healthier and more peaceful way to live anyway. The world will not stop or even blink if I only get 8 things done instead of 10.

And so I choose today to be a peaceful day. I wish the same for you and know that you are not alone in trying to figure out the best way to spend a day. They fly by and we owe it to ourselves to enjoy them as much as possible.

And let the thunder roar…

On May 27, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

A most perfect development to an already splendid evening. The clouds have conspired together and given us the most wonderful spring shower imaginable. The temperature is just right, the sun was still given us the smallest glimpse of light before it continued it’s journey to light the rest of the world. As much as I like sunshine, I am aware that everyone deserves their fare share. Luckily we will meet again tomorrow for another rendezvous. I could hear the drops crash against the window sill in the most interesting of rhythms. Should I try, I could not write a tune so lovely and I enjoy it knowing that it is a melody that is will happen only today, only right now. With so many recording devices we have now it’s nice to know that some things can’t be captured and the only thing that can be done is to enjoy them, right then and there.

And so with that in mind, I sit and smell the rain, listen to the rain and of course watch the rain taking in each drop that falls close enough to my little circle. I hope you are having a special evening wherever you find yourself as you read these words and that this day doesn’t just get lost as just any other day but that something sticks out as different, unique and altogether amazing.

I just returned from a birthday dinner for my drummer George. We a had a great time and I got to eat the most delicious plate of shrimp parmigiana and then for dessert, tartufo and a cappuccino. Need I say more? I am definitely an Italian cuisine fan and tonight was no exception. Gotta give it to the Italians. What about you, what kind of cuisine takes your fancy?

I wish you a wonderful night and thanks so much for stopping by. I must say that I am as always honored that you share a small portion of your night with me.
molto amore e un abbraccio grandissimo

That’s the way to celebrate a birthday…

On May 27, 2008 in Daily Musing

I figure at this point she’s thinking, I am going to party like nobody’s business. lol! Good for her, Happy 100th!

Good rainy morning to all. The day has started out quiet here in Big Apple and I am feeling good. Had a fun night last night at my folks house and barbecued the day away. My drummer George and his girlfriend Maribel stopped by to chow down with us and it was a great time indeed. My parents have a huge backyard and we wound up playing some soccer which was good because after the insane amounts of food that we ate, we needed to work it off!

Hope you had a great weekend as well and that you are starting off this Tuesday in a great way. Don’t forget, we choose how we are going to spend and view our day, it doesn’t choose for us.

much love and I will see you all tonight
