Do you open up easily?…

On November 30, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

The streets are wet, the night is sultry and jazz fills my apartment in the sweetest of ways. The artist is Keith Jarrett and I have always enjoyed his playing. Haven’t heard this CD in quite some time and a rainy November evening seemed just the perfect occasion. Life is pretty good.

It was a good day so far. Church service went well, and then I went to have a junk food lunch with my friend Rich. If you know anything about me is that although I wish it weren’t so, I am a sucker for junk food. I try to keep it to a minumun and as much as I can run the other way, but I’ll be damned if I like it! So off we went and ate not like pigs but definitely enough ;)

Then I came back home and prepared and edited the ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ video that is below. Hope you enjoy it. Every year I told myself that I would record some Christmas music and never got it going so this year I dragged my friend Doug on bass and we’ve been recording some tunes. We’re getting together this week to have .mp3 quality recording that I’ll be posting on my myspace page for you all to hear. I do enjoy the Holiday season and although I hate winter, all the celebrating up until New Years and my birthday on Jan 2nd, I do enjoy. It’s just the winter patch after those dates that seem to last forever. lol! Spring oh spring, where art thou?

So with a warm cup of tea by my side, jazz playing and rain outside, I ask you tonight: Do you open up easily? I almost should not even answer this given that I pretty much share my entire life on this blog but I will answer why I do it. There has never been a time that I have regretted opening up to people. If I think someone is genuinely interested, I will share just about anything they want to know. I have found that when I am that way with others, they more often than not, are the same way back. I learn the most lessons about life from listening to other’s experiences but you have to share in order t be shared with. It doesn’t mean losing yourself in others, because that can be dangerous and a bit too risky, but like a candle sharing it’s flame, you can share yourself with others.

have a beautifully magical night

Peaceful Caribe Sunday…

On November 30, 2008 in Peaceful Sunday

A rainy Sunday NYC morning has begun and oh boy, is it a good one. I just got done with teaching some music lessons and now I am just enjoying some quiet moments before the rest of my day continues as planned.

Hope your morning has started off on a good note. I had a good night and I want to thank everyone for their very warm and toasty message. they were very well received ;)

Just a quick note to everyone that sent in a ‘Rhen Rocks’ pic and hasn’t seen it posted yet. I have been redesigning the Rhenworld.com site to be a little more interactive and friendly and it’s going to be a few more days before it’s ready so I won’t be able to post anything new until it’s ready. I am going to be working on it today as well so it might even be ready tonight. People always as me how they can help promote Rhen and I am getting some promotional pages ready with banner codes and things like that, I can’t wait. But keep the ‘Rhen Rocks’ pics coming for sure and I’ll post them soon.

So this morning I am sharing, although not a soft piece of music, a composition that I have enjoyed for many years. The pianist is Michel Camilo and he is just amazing. I have yet to see him live but those that have tell me that he is incredible. Today’s piece is called ‘Caribe’ and get your dancing shoes on because it’s cookin’! lol!

have a wonderful morning sweet friends and see ya tonight
much love

p.s. I have entered a contest to be a part of Mayercraft, a music festival on a cruise headed up by John Mayer, and I really think Rhen has a good chance but as always I cannot do it without your help. Click the John Mayer banner up on the right or here and vote for me if you would be so kind. You can vote once a day, every day. I think we can do this and it would be so awesome and really get Rhen heard by the world. Let’s let them know who has the best fans/friends ever!!!!

How do you eat your Oreo?…

On November 29, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

The night is cold, the wind sweeps through and the mood is quite delightful. I sit in my office/music studio and enjoy the sprinkling of Christmas lights that I chose to decorate with this year. I normally don’t decorate the house for the holidays but this year, although it’s a far cry from officially decorating, I decided to add a little glitter to the house. I like it. I especially like to turn off all the lights and leave only the Christmas lights on, it reminds me when I was a kid and you would come down the stairs and only the tree was lit. I like those moments, they’re the type of moments that seem to never fade from your mind and become a reminder to some very magical moments in life.

I am happy to announce that my trip to Italy is official next year. I will be traveling for 2 months and trying to play as much as possible. I am meeting up with some musician friends of mine that have played for Rhen in the past and seeing how much we can conquer in the alloted time. I can’t wait and I know it’s going to be a great time :)

So tonight’s question is definitely one to recall some pretty sweet memories: How do you eat your Oreo? I personally dunk the whole cookie in milk and then gobble the darn thing down. lol! Nothing fancy nothing schmancy, just dunk and bam!, down the hatch :)

have a great night and I’ll see ya at breakfast with some peaceful music
much cookie lovin’ love

The de-volution of man!…

On November 29, 2008 in Daily Musing

Wow, it’s never made so much sense until now! lol!

Yes folks, the weekend is here and it’s feeling good. Although I do have a long work day today, I am feeling good and looking forward to the rest of the weekend. The rehearsal went great and the new tunes are sounding good. I really enjoy the process of fleshing out and developing new songs. At first you’re not even sure they are going to make it, but slowly but surely, they start taking shape and make the cut. Can’t wait to share them with you that night. I will be filming it and posting an edited version online so for those that can’t physically make it to the show, no need to worry, I’ve gotcha covered :)

Have a wonderful morning and I’ll check in later on tonight
much love

What are you most thankful for?…

On November 28, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

Good chilly evening to all. The work day has come to an end and now begins the latter half of my day and what is to me, the more fulfilling of the two halves.

Tonight there is a rehearsal for drums and bass and they should be arriving around 8pm. Slowly but surely all the tunes are coming together and I have always enjoyed rehearsals. I know some people don’t enjoy them as much but I really get into it and even if it’s not an intense 4 hour rehearsal, I still enjoy getting together and playing music. At the end of the day, that’s what I enjoy the most. The rest of it is wonderful and delcious icing on the already tasty cake :)

So what do you have planned for the weekend? I have a long work day tomorrow but then all should be set for some fun and town painting which I’m looking forward to.

Although I know I should have asked this question yesterday, time was fleeting and I couldn’t break away from family time long enough to properly present this most important question but I thought it deserved it’s moment:
———————————————–
What are you most thankful for?
———————————————–
My answer: I know this is not an easy question since there are probably many things to be thankful for but I thought it would be nice to name a few. For me, I am most thankful for my family. I have been lucky enough to grow up with two sisters that are my really close friends and also parents that always treated me both as a son and as a friend. To this day, the advice my dad left me and the advice my mom still gives me holds much wieght in the decisions I make. Their wisdom has been a huge blessing to me. I am also grateful for the people God has surrounded me with in this life. If it’s one things I cannot complain about it’s lack of love. I am forever swimming in a sea of love, support and friendship and I can’t be more grateful for that. And one more thing that I am grateful for is to have found my passion in life. For years I toiled towards unknown destinations and goals. Now I finally know where to invest my energy and what gives me a return in satisfaction. A day spent in music is a day I fall asleep content and pleased.

much love

“And gentlemen, she makes a helluva meatloaf, too!” by Sheri

On November 28, 2008 in Add your caption Friday

Good Friday morning. It is beautiful and sunny here in good ol’ NYC which is great because I am going to have to be working outside all day long. We are lettering a big box truck today and everytime we do that in the winter months, the only thing I am praying for is some sunshine to fall on our backs.

I want to congratulate Esterina with here winning caption from last week: “Who ever knew there would be so many hitch-hikers in the desert…” Congrats Esterina!! Here is a brand spanking new pic that you should have no problem at all coming up with a caption for. lol!

Have a wonderful morning and I will see you all gratefully nice and warm with some coffee tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!!…

On November 27, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

Hey sweet friends. I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a beautiful night. We eat very late so although I know most everyone is long done with dinner, I am just about to start! We’ve always been a late eating family. Late night munchies tend to happen at 1am. lol!

But I did want to say his before I start to chow down. And of course, no thanksgiving would be complete without acknowledging those that you are grateful for and you my friends are among those that I am grateful for. Thank you for being part of my ride in this life and more importantly, sharing of your time and experiences here so that we may continue to be friends.

much grateful love

The mysterious cow turkey appears again!…

On November 27, 2008 in Daily Musing

I think I actually used this cartoon for last years posting but it still makes me smile so there you go :)

Good Thanksgiving morning to all. I am so well rested, it is sinful. I was loopy all day yesterday but then I went out for some coffee and dessert and by the time I got home, I didn’t even know who I was. lol! So I quickly conked out to dreamland and hung out there until this morning. Utter bliss!

I want to wish everyone a beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving. I am off to my sister’s house tonight. I will certainly take my camera and share some of our moments together with you.

much gobble gobble love

Do you think the world is a better place today than 100 years ago?…

On November 26, 2008 in Thoughts in the evening...

Good evening sweet friends. I am quite loopy and I am ready for some shut-eye. Of course, I probably won’t sleep since knowing that I don’t have to work tomorrow will keep me up and excited to get things done. It’s been a good week and day by day I keep looking forward to the end of the year. I know 2009 hold in it’s hand some good cards and I can’t wait to see what they are :)

Although I will also say this tomorrow, I just want to wish those celebrating a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. I pray you get a chance to spend some time with those that you love and even if you’re mad at each other, act like you love each other anyway. lol!

So grab a cup of coffee because this is a question that can fuel many a fine conversations: Do you think the world is a better place today than 100 years ago? Ultimately I want to say no, but not that it’s worse, just the same in a lot of ways. Granted, a lot of things have been bettered but I always feel at the root, that the human condition of struggle, conflict and a need for drama will always prevail. It’s like we need something to fight against. When the odds are in our favor, we find a way to be dissatisfied, bored and even worse, desirous of more! Again, I think there have been huge strides in many areas of humanity, and we seem to love and want to help the entire planet but still find it hard to talk and get along with our own neighbors. Wierd :/

have a beautiful night and I will see you all in the morning
much hug your neighbor love

Sadly, computer violence keeps growing…

On November 26, 2008 in Daily Musing

At least they post signs as a warning! lol!

Good mid-morning to everyone. I know I am a bit late this morning. I was up till 5:30am last night or should I say this morning editing a Christmas video and I was too excited to sleep. I recorded “Winter Wonderland” a few days ago with my good friend and bass player Doug and then I went out to the city to get some footage and I really wanted to get the video ready before this Holiday weekend.

So although I am running on fumes right now, I am feeling great and having a sweet day thus far. I hope you have a beautiful day as well and I will see you all tonight.
The video is below the picture if you want to check it out.
much sleepy love
