What traits do you find most important in someone?…
On October 30, 2009 in Thoughts in the evening...
Good Friday evening to everyone. Today has been quite a good day. Nothing extraordinary to tell other than it flowed quite nicely from it’s early start up until now. And the hope is that it continues in said fashion
I have been doing so much reading lately that a recurring thought keeps coming back to me and that is precisely tonight’s question. What is it about certain people that we find most admirable or most important. What are those specific characteristics that make them stand out above the rest that make us take note and want to enjoy their presence in our lives? Well, since I can’t guess your answers, I will certainly share my answer and wait expectantly to see what everyone else has to say about the subject.
For me, although I could list a plethora of traits that would sound perfectly fine, I have given this some serious thought over the past few days and have come up with a few key character traits that I find to be admirable in those I look up to or simply enjoy their presence. The small but crucial list is this: 1. Kind 2. Good listener/talker(communicator) 3. Patient 4. Hopeful 5. Passionate(about anything) 6. Giving
Now this far from an exhaustive list but definitely among the top of what I see in those people that touch me in a special way.
I cannot wait to read everyone’s responses and see what you all think on the subject. I pray you all have a most incredible Friday night and that it is but a precursor to an amazing weekend. Thank you all for being a part of this road of mine and sharing your thoughts, something that seems to be forgotten in this age of running to and fro from here to there

What was your favorite subject in school?…
On October 29, 2009 in Thoughts in the evening...
So the good news is that I finally got the polling software up and running! Luckily there’s no bad news so this isn’t one of those “good news/bad news” type of moments. Just good news tonight. We’ll try out the software tonight and see if we like it and if it works nice and clean, I’ll keep it and use it for future questions.
I thought tonight we would ask a simple question from our childhood or perhaps from present day studies if that’s what you’re up to these days. To be completely honest I never did like school much but if I was forced to choose a favorite subject besides music of course, it would probably have to be Science. I really enjoyed in elementary school doing all those experiments and being hands on. I have always enjoyed hands-on classes as opposed to theoretical courses. What about you, what was your favorite subject in school?
hope you’re having a great night and I aim to do the same, scout’s honor ![]()

I thought cows WERE allowed on cable cars!…
On October 29, 2009 in Daily Musing
I guess I was wrong. lol! I don’t even know where to begin with this pic…omg!
It’s still gray and rainy here in NYC and the wonderful thing is that although it’s been rainy, the temperature has been great and just right for long walks. Last night I walked extensively through the city and enjoyed a wonderful evening. There was barely a light drizzle as I walked through Columbus Circle, Times Square and eventually ended up in Union Square sitting in the square enjoying a good book and having a warm cup of coffee. Not a complicated night by any means, but one that was quite welcome.
I keep returning to this concept of simpleness and it seems to keep shouting out to me from all areas of my life. The overwhelming lesson seems to be to regain and hold on to the simple things of this life. Of course life gets hectic from time to time but that doesn’t mean that we must forget the treasure that lies in the most simple of activities or should I say the ‘privilege’ of such activities. It’s so easy to forget that the mere act of walking, sitting down to have a quick bite or even putting on a warm jacket is in and of itself among the largest of privileges. This is the place I want to reside, where everything we are doing becomes alive again with wonder and appreciation. And it can be done and in my humble opinion, if we are to have a full life, needs to be done.
So I invite you today to make it a day of savoring and soaking in the simple privileges of yor life, of which I know you must have many as well. There will still be problems, yes, I am not denying this, but let’s at least direct some of that attention to a better place. What do you say? Let the adventure begin!

The Queen of rubber duckies!…
On October 27, 2009 in Daily Musing
Now that is one big rubber ducky and I am just happy that someone out there went through the trouble of building one and setting it free into the waters. That is the kind of smile that I want to start my day off with
Good rainy afternoon. It’s been a quiet morning here and most of my business is happening in the afternoon today so the tranquility has been welcome.
I want to apologize for the faulty polling software that I posted yesterday but I did want to thank everyone that posted their answers on my Facebook & Myspace pages. It seems as though there is no correlation between the sexes and whether or not we leave our spoons in our cups of coffees and tea. What I did notice is that although most folks take their spoons out before they take a sip of their java’s, a fair amount, more than I thought in fact, leave the spoon in while they drink. I am definitely guilty of that and wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one.
I promise to have an equally silly yet fun question to get to know one another soon and I promise to find better polling software. I love asking questions, not that it’s a big surprise but it’s a really great way of getting to share all of our little quirks, thoughts and ways of this life and at the end of the day, getting to know good people is the best thing I can think of doing.
p.s. I watched the movie “Up” last night and I completely loved it.

Do you leave the spoon in your coffee/tea when you drink?…
On October 26, 2009 in Thoughts in the evening...
Good quiet evening to everyone. It is a surprisingly warm Autumn night here in NYC and I am enjoying it immensely. I have the privilege of having dinner with my mom tonight and we are about to go enjoy some late night food. We always ate late in our family and got used to that over the years so dinner at 8 or even 9pm has become the norm in my life.
Tonight’s question comes from an observation that most of the men that I know that drink coffee/tea tend to leave the spoon in the coffee cup while they sip on their coffee while the women almost always remove the spoon before they drink. Now I am not opening up a discussion to point out the lack of etiquette that we men are displaying during coffee and tea time, I am merely trying to see if the theory holds true with a larger audience. So let’s find out if there is any observable pattern here. Just a little evening social experiment if you will, and I really hope you will
hope your evening is moving along beautifully and that something stood out today as being special

p.s. The polling software is a little quirky and takes a while to update so don’t worry if your vote doesn’t come up immediately.

Peaceful Trouble Sunday…
On October 25, 2009 in Peaceful Sunday
The sky could not be a cleaner blue canvas this morning and the day has started out just right. Today is one of those lucky days that is wide open to do just about anything. The weather is perfection and I don’t have any appointments to be at until 5 so I have the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon to enjoy what appears to be a beautiful day.
I have been reading a lot lately and I don’t know about you but it had been forever since I had actually finished an entire book. For some reason in the past few years of my life, I would pick up a book, sometimes two and read parts of it, maybe the first few chapters, sometimes even half of it and then I would lose interest and never finish it. It was definitely a pattern that had developed without my even noticing it. Last week I finished two books and now this week I am on my third which makes me very happy. The more I write about reading, the more I realize that this might just be the right day to go outside and enjoy some reading by the water and soak in some rays. The simple pleasures, right?
Here’s a question for this Sunday morning….what are your most treasured simple pleasures in life?
This morning I share with you a song by Coldplay that I really enjoy called Trouble. There was a great remix of this song I heard a few years back but I couldn’t find it so here is the original to enjoy.
have a wondrous day in which you see things in a new light

Who said eating before bedtime was bad for you?…
On October 24, 2009 in Daily Musing
Now this guy is definitely pushing the limits of late-night snacking. lol!
Good cloudy Saturday morning to all. The rain has found it’s way to our great city yet again and also once again, with no complaints from this Brooklynite. It’s been a great start to this weekend so far and I am looking forward to a few days of good laughs, good talks and new memories. At the end of any day in this life, that is the most that we could possibly ask for.
I have been asking people lately what they find most important in this life and the answers usually follow a very similar pattern: Family, friends, learning new things, love, health & spirituality. Then I asked them where they invest most of their time in life on a daily basis. The interesting and frightening thing that came up, over and over, was that the list to the second question rarely matched the first list. I won’t even go into why there is something so obviously unhealthy about that because I think it’s fairly obvious but I will offer us a challenge of trying to unite those two lists a little closer this weekend.
The truth is that there are many people that have these lists quite united already and to them I say, we applaud you and we need to learn from you. For the rest of us, let’s invest in those things that will truly build a treasure for us in this life and be courageous enough to be the one to get it started, you’ll be so happy that you did

There’s Mardi Gras and then Messy Wednesday!…
On October 22, 2009 in Daily Musing
Sure everybody parties the night before but these guys have to deal with the mess the next day! lol!
Bon giorno a tutti. The sun is not quite shining on this Thursday morning here in NYC but nevertheless it’s still a good start to this day. I am having some hot tea, listening to one of my favorite pieces of music of all time, Chopin’s Piano Concerto and although there are some things to take care of today, it should still prove to be a good day.
I’ve been reading a lot lately and I was recommended a book titled, In Praise of Slowness: Challenging the Cult of Speed by Carl Honore and it talks about how we are addicted in today’s society to being busy all the time and how we were not made to be that way. Very interesting topic and one that has been on my mind a lot lately so I ordered the book last night and I’ll let you know how I like it once I read it. If anyone has any book recommendations, by all means let me know, I always like to know what people are reading and what books they enjoy.
Well, I’ll keep it short and brief this morning and get going with my day. I hope it’s a great start to this day and remember that it’s always ‘today’ and it’s a day just as good as any to go out and make it special. Special things do happen randomly once in a while, that’s definitely true, but you have it in your power to make each day special in some way.

The force needs a little rain sometimes…
On October 21, 2009 in Daily Musing
A little dancing in the rain is good for even the most galactic of souls
All I can say about this morning is wow and thank you God. If I didn’t look at a calendar, I would be certain that it’s a beautiful day in April or May. Temperature is just right, the sun is out and the day is moving along at a smooth pace. Today, as with most Wednesdays, is going to be quite a busy day, yet there is no anxiety to be found, no desperation in the schedule and no feelings of dissatisfaction in the air. Something very interesting has been happening lately and it’s something that I am most grateful for. I guess the best way to describe the feeling is to describe what it’s not.
I have, many times, felt as if life was zipping by from task to task, activity to activity and plan to plan. Not that I wasn’t appreciating what was around me, but there was a sense that it was all going by way too fast and that I would somehow, someday reach this perfect goal where I could sit inside that moment and life would slow down again so I could breathe it all in at once. I am realizing that day doesn’t really exist. Life does not fit into a box that way and you either learn to breathe it in as you’re going or you spend the rest of your life trying to line up all these proverbial ducks in a row. It’s time to just enjoy the ducks in their randomness inside a good bath instead of trying so hard and waiting for that ’special’ day to arrive.
That day has already come and I don’t want to miss it anymore.
here’s to full living, each and every day, not is some hokie, poetic way where we act like everything is perfect. No, this is full living in full awareness that although not everything is perfect, there is still lots to appreciate, soak in and realizing that it’s always worth the effort to make a day stand out among the rest.
much aware love

Reading and Driving…also not a good idea!…
On October 20, 2009 in Daily Musing
Now I’m not one to be a stickler for obeying all the rules but I’m going to safely assume that reading and driving is not the best combo. lol!
Good early Tuesday morning to everyone. It is 6:46 in the am on this quiet morning and the sky is just being painted it’s first hues of the day. Although I don’t habitually get up at this hour on a daily basis, I do enjoy it from time to time and appreciate the serenity and peace that it offers as compared to the rest of the day.
The chill in the air continues to grow with each passing day and although my distaste for New York winters is quite apparent at this point, I will say that I do find the Autumn to be quite charming and wonderful. Leaves dressing new colors, sweaters and light jackets, a good cup of coffee and excellent conversations are just some of the neat things this season has to offer. So for those that think I’m a Winter scrooge, hopefully my appreciation for Autumn will balance that out somehow
have a surprising morning and do something unexpected for someone today
